Hard to bike on this

So Sorry folks, I have been on the road, and I don’t have a bike rack yet!

So much going on. It is all wonderfully overwhelming. Mostly, lets just say, I found an old friend that I adore and have been spending time with him enjoying our shared pleasures, sailing being one of them, traveling, and hanging out with my precious family. While at Marina del Rey I would have loved to have my bike with me, but we drove down and I flew back Virgin America. Can’t imagine what it would cost to put my bike on a plane but I certainly thought about it. I’m still trying to work out some issues with my iPhone camera, my mobile me app, and the wordpress mobile app.

Work has been amazingly busy too, when I get back it sucks me in. Truth be told I should be there now but I feel so negligent I HAD to post to the blog ASAP.

Oh, and my landlord has decided to sell my digs, and so, that’s been a little preoccupying too. Guess I may have to move or my rent is going up. SInce I need a roommate anyhow right now, not sure what to do. Probably have to hang in till it’s time to move, no sense in moving someone new in now. Kinda sucks.

And lets not discuss taxes. Please. Shhh. Don’t tell them where to find me.

Admittedly, the bike is heavy-ish. I find just walking it makes me stronger! My good old friend, (in friend years) takes a constitutional walk everyday, and it was her birthday ((Happy Birthday Aries friends! xox)) So I wanted to walk with her. Since I am still getting used to this machine, I chose to walk it most of the way, and get used to the heft and navigation.

I finally picked up a bike lock.

No matter what, this bike is a spectacle. It is such a gorgeous piece of equipment, and interestingly, guys really dig it. I don’t mind schmoozing so much, but will have to get used to the street attention. People love the design and want to know “What is THAT?” I’m going to have to learn more about Optibike’s in general so I can talk my walk, no pun intended.

I did get on the bike and actually ride it. I do need some riding buds, because riding is more fun with a group!
I also was very inspired by the first coaching session, and have incorporated some hot baths, more water and some stretching into my day.

I was asked to take a photo of myself with my bike, and I asked my friend to do that, I’m posting it. I don’t really love it, but I am trying to love myself for who I am :) ,

Will get some more photo’s ASAP.

Mistress Red, thanks SolarMama!

And what a difference 20 minutes of stretching makes!!

Took a side trip to visit family, great trip! Lots of birthdays, cake, re connecting with family, and celebrating life.

Still working on my details, still need lab work.

Have missed my bike, and worried about losing time.

It rained like crazy here anyway, so I guess it was a good week to take off. Am still on East Coast time, goal for tomorrow, back on the bike!

crazy bikeride in Chile

this is going round the net. crazy ride, and now with this bike, I’m thinking maaaaaybeeeee later this year! :)

One of the things that was a must do before I began, was to go see my Ortho Doc. He is an excellent Doctor and I was lucky to find him.  My surgery went very well ( I woke up during it! Another story for another day).

The good news is, it was a very successful surgery. The bad news is that it IS one of the metal joints that is the currently in the recall, and I have been paying attention to every twinge or ache in my joint.

After my ride yesterday, my confidence is up,  my legs feel stronger, my balance is noticeably better. I look forward to getting strong. I want my legs back.

“The ASR Hip is made up of ball and socket components that move against each other. These metal components wear over time and generate very small particles that can only be seen with a microscope. This is an expected process. These particles do not cause problems for most patients, but a small number of patients may react to these particles, causing fluid to collect in the joint and in the muscles around the joint. While this condition may initially be painless, if left untreated, this reaction may cause pain and swelling around the joint and could damage some of the muscles, bones, and nerves around the hip.”

Not happening to me, NO WAY!

Personally, I do not plan to be in that failure group.

Do need to get labs this week for my baseline as well as for the annual monitoring I will need, lipids etc.  Measuring for Chromium and Cobalt.

Dr. Cox tells me my X-Rays are perfect, that the placement of the acetabular prosthetic cap is just right at a 45% angle. It thunks occasionally but that is expected. I have no impingement, and even did a cheerleader one knee split the other day by mistake, it was amazing. I have NEVER been able to do that :)  Because he is a Sports Med Doctor, I trust him when he tells me I am good to go for the biking and that it is a great sport for the hips.

Flat Tires

Went on my first really real spin today. I was telling everybody I spokw with it was my virgin ride, and for all purposes it was. It was great! I’m realizing I can just enjoy this, and I don’t have to be Super Gnarly Biker Girrrl. Many people asked about the bike. Some kids on a corner hollered at me, hey your tires are flat! And they were. I was on my way to a bike shop anyway, as there are a few things I need, lock, pumps, and I really want to trick my bike out with a disco bell :) So I ended up in Downtown San Rafael at Mikes Bikes, where they filled my tires and looked at pumps and locks with me. I’m torn because Justin the Services manager, was really excited about helping me out, but I also have Whit @ WhitsWorth Cycles and Brian in Sacramento will help me too. Brian is going to help me trick my bike out, and I loved Whit’s Shop. Very Cool Place. Getting the bike to Sac for tune-up will be tough, I will need a car rack.

Future goals:

  • Have some measurements to get, and some labs to do. my friend Lisa offered to do some before front and back photo’s. I don’t know about THAT. EEKS
  • My bike needs a name, and I don’t even know where to start. Nothing has come to me. But it will, with the help of my friends.
  • Sign up as  green Commuter with the County of Marin, and I think I will re-donate my money earned from that to my favorite charity. I have several so I have to think this through. Or maybe I can just donate to all of them.
  • Ride to work
  • Ride with Denise who is doing the Marin Half Marathon and asked me to be in her support crew which I would love to do!
  • Rejoin the Marin Bike Coalition
  • Figure out how to get people the links to the blog? Maybe a personal card with the info on it.

Nobody here seems to know what kind of bike it is, and it certainly does catch the eye. (If I were in the market to meet men, this works, almost as good as a dog for a guy ;) *snickers to self*)

All in all it was leisurely ride, saw some old friends, met some new, talked with 7 different folks, almost wiped out simply coasting down the hill!

I told everybody, “I’m a noob”, and all were extremely helpful, supportive. Lots of smiles on the streets today.

Going to go check out my WaterGym class, see if they are still at it, that would be a great Saturday ride, and then the day is mine! ALL MINE!
